Strathclyde, which became independent on 20 August 2001, is a serious micronation in Scotland. It seeks independence from the United Kingdom to establish a state which guarantees human rights which are superior to the interests of the state, and claims the territory which formed the area of the Strathclyde Regional Council. Strathclyde is a direct democracy in which her king is elected for life by the citizen-elected parliament. She has a written constitution and is a pacifist state. Her oldest "declaration of independence" is in the Strathclyde Act 2001; the actual date of independence is reckoned from the day after the launch of this website on 19 August 2001.
Strathclyde will not entertain applications for diplomatic relations from states which: (a) does not have a website: (b) favour or practice racism, discrimination, homophobia or heterophobia: (c) actively violate human rights and civil liberties: (d) prohibit or restrict the right to freedom of religion: (e) advocates terrorism.
